Collective Agreements

If you think your collective agreement rights may have been violated or if you need help interpreting your collective agreement, contact a GSU staff representative by email, toll-free at 1.866.522.6686 (Regina) or 1.855.384.7314 (Saskatoon), or locally at 306.522.6686 (Regina) or 306.384.7314 (Saskatoon).

Your collective agreement or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is an agreement between employers and employees. The agreement regulates the terms and conditions of employees in their workplace, the duties of employees, and the duties of the employer.

The GSU’s goal is to expand on and improve the collective agreement. This takes place during agreement renewal bargaining. It can also take place during the life of the contract if GSU members and officers are quick to fight contract violations and to “flesh out” the details of workers’ rights.

Often workers’ rights will be broader than the letter of the collective agreement. Practises evolve over time; the union and management agree on ways of dealing with or interpreting situations.

Contact your GSU staff rep with any questions you have about your collective agreement. We work hard to enforce the rights and benefits in your agreement. If you are having a problem in the workplace and you think your collective agreement rights may have been violated, don’t hesitate to contact an elected GSU officer of a GSU staff rep.
