About GSU

Grain and General Services Union’s organizational structure is comprises Locals based on member bargaining units (i.e. Viterra, Heartland, Richardson, etc.) rather than geographic locations.

Our constitution ensures that each Local in GSU is autonomous with the authority to administer its affairs and conduct its business within the constitution and bylaws of GSU.

Membership in the GSU is open to all workers. GSU represents a wide variety of workers from accountants, grain graders, and millwrights to analysts, journalists, and welders.

The Grain and General Services Union represents approximately 1,500 workers in Western Canada.

Our main office is located in Regina, SK, with another office in Saskatoon, SK.

We began in 1936, representing Saskatchewan Wheat Pool workers. Since then, we’ve grown to include members working for Viterra, Richardson International Ltd, Nutrien, Wild West Steelhead, Heartland Livestock, The Western Producer, Grain Millers Canada Corp., IATSE 295, Advance Engineered Products Ltd., Trouw Nutrition, Lake Country Co-op, Discovery Co-op, Lloydminster Co-op, and Prairie Co-op.

GSU is affiliated to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union – Canada and is part of a worker family of more than 15,000 members.
