Local 10 (Trouw Nutrition – Westlock) reviewing first draft of new collective agreement

Tuesday MEMBERS’ MEMO – Sept. 23, 2025

The bargaining committee for Local 10 has reviewed the first draft of the proposed new collective agreement. Following their review, the draft was sent to Local 10 members for their review and feedback.

GSU staff rep Mason Van Luven notes, “A careful review is important because we are agreeing to an entirely new contract, not just updating an existing collective agreement.”

A ratification meeting is being scheduled where members can ask questions and vote to accept or reject the proposed agreement.

Local 10 (Trouw Nutrition – Westlock) – awaiting the first draft of the new collective agreement

Tuesday MEMBERS’ MEMO – Sept. 9, 2025

GSU Local 10’s bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement with Trouw Nutrition Westlock. This is an important milestone, giving Local 10 members a real voice in their workplace and moving them closer to their first collective agreement. The company is preparing the first draft of the collective agreement, which the union bargaining committee will review before it is shared with members.

Members will have a chance to review the agreement and ask questions before voting on whether to accept it. Dates for the membership review and vote have not been scheduled yet.

Tentative Agreement Reached

August 25, 2025

GSU Local 10’s bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement with their employer, Trouw Nutrition Westlock.

After meeting with members on August 20 to discuss fair wages and working conditions, the union committee met with the employer the next day in Edmonton and successfully negotiated a deal.

The agreement will first be drafted into a full contract and shared with members for review. A ratification meeting will follow—likely in mid-September—where members can ask questions and vote on whether to accept the agreement.

A tentative agreement means the committee supports the offer, but the final decision rests with Local 10 members. This marks an important step toward securing their first collective agreement with the employer.

Bargaining Delayed as Company Postpones Scheduled Talks

Tuesday Members’ Memo – Feb. 4, 2025

Bargaining sessions originally scheduled for the week of February 17 have been postponed because the company is not ready. This is disappointing since both sides had agreed to these dates.

Our preparation work will continue. This delay will be used to further train and educate the bargaining committee so that they are fully prepared when negotiations begin.

Local 10 Takes the Next Step Toward a First Contract

Tuesday Members’ Memo – Jan. 28, 2025

Our new Local 10 members have made impressive strides in a short time. Just a few months ago, they approached GSU staff rep Mason Van Luven about joining the union, and on January 10, the Canada Industrial Relations Board officially certified GSU as their bargaining representative.

Now, with a newly elected bargaining committee in place, they are set to meet with employer representatives on February 17 for their first negotiation session to begin building a new collective agreement.
