Bargaining Update: Tentative Agreement Reached – Next Steps

Source: Oct. 3, 2025 email to Local 5 members

  • On September 26, your bargaining committee reached a tentative agreement with the Company. This triggers a ratification vote of the agreement by the membership.

  • On October 2, your Board of Delegates met and finalized how the ratification process will be conducted. In the coming days, they will coordinate with you and your peers to set the date for your ratification meeting.

The purpose of this update is to share the tentative agreement with you and to outline the ratification process.

First, this information was sent to Local 15 (Nutrien) members by email on October 3, including the tentative agreement as an attachment. The tentative agreement is the document as negotiated, without additional commentary. During the week of October 6, we will provide a supplementary document with more detail on how the changes will affect your collective agreement. That document will be paired with scheduled town halls and discussion at your ratification meeting, so that when it comes time to vote, you will have the information you need to make a fully informed decision.

Second, below is an outline of the ratification process, including deadlines for completion and options if you cannot attend your ratification meeting. Please note that all meetings and voting will be completed by Friday, November 7.

Third, when the bargaining committee met with your Board of Delegates on September 10, 2025, they reviewed the feedback and priorities you shared over the summer months. Bargaining always leads to a point where the membership has the final say through a ballot. That principle guided your bargaining committee in reaching this tentative agreement.

What happens next?

1. Attending your ratification meeting.

Ratification meetings are an important opportunity for workers to come together, have meaningful discussions, and shape material changes in your workplace. Your attendance matters, and your perspective is important. These meetings will include members of your sub-local and the stations within it. You can see the list of your sub-local by using the link you’ll find here.

Meetings will be scheduled in coordination with your Staff Rep and your Board of Delegates (or designated contact person). Please work with your peers in your sub-local to find a time and location that works best for the majority to attend in person.

At the meeting, you will be voting on the tentative agreement.

Question: What happens if I cannot attend my ratification meeting?

If you are in the combine that night, hauling cattle, on vacation, or on leave and cannot attend your ratification meeting, please join a scheduled town hall, which will be held virtually via TEAMS.

Before voting, we strongly encourage you to attend an informational meeting to learn about the tentative agreement and how it ties into the collective agreement you already benefit from. Being well-informed will help you cast your vote with confidence on the changes that affect your workplace.

2. Attend a town hall meeting, or speak with either Mason or Steve.

This is a busy time for those directly involved in agriculture, so our town halls will be held virtually so you can attend from the cab of your truck or combine, or wherever you may be. If those times conflict and attending a ratification meeting is not feasible, please reach out directly to Mason or Steve with your questions to learn more about the offer. The goal is to provide at least one opportunity to communicate meaningfully with your peers, so you can learn from each other and make an informed vote.

3. Casting a ballot

At your ratification meeting, you will cast a ballot. If you cannot attend your ratification meeting, you can join a town hall starting next week and continuing throughout the ratification process to get more information.

After attending a town hall and/or speaking with Steve or Mason, you can request an e-ballot by emailing Mason@gsu.ca.

To sum up: You can cast your vote in two ways—either in person at your ratification meeting or by e-ballot before Friday, November 7, 2025.

Any questions or concerns, please email your staff rep, or Mason@gsu.ca.

Please share this important update with your fellow GSU members.

Your Bargaining Committee has reached a Tentative Agreement with the Company.

Email sent to Members: Sept. 26, 2025

What’s a Tentative Agreement?

A tentative agreement is a proposed deal between the union and the employer. It is not final—it only becomes a binding contract if union members vote to approve it through a process called ratification.

Next Steps

Your bargaining committee is working with your Local 15 Board of Delegates* to set a meeting to review the tentative agreement. We are aiming for this week. After that meeting, the process for conducting the vote will be announced to all members.

*If you don’t know who your elected delegate is, you can reach out to your GSU staff representative to clarify.

Negotiations are set for September 24, 25, and 26.

If you want to learn more about what’s happening behind the scenes as we get ready to head back to the bargaining table, watch this page, check in with your Board of Delegates (BoD) member or your GSU staff rep. Your locally-elected BoD member is your go-to for bargaining updates, but your GSU staff rep can also assist you with any questions or concerns.
